ShaSa Resorts Owns Up To Hamilton Gaffe

Jan. 28, 2012 - PRLog -- The award-winning boutique hotel, ShaSa Resorts and Residences yesterday owned up to committing a blunder of huge proportions following the recent Singapore Grand Prix, when it advertised a free night’s stay to a “Mr Hamilton”, referring of course to the F1 ace Lewis Hamilton. Sadly for ShaSa Resorts however, it turned out there were quite a few “Mr. Hamilton’s” who were ready to take them up on their offer!

ShaSa’s amazing blunder occurred after the renowned resort decided to take advantage of the magnetic attraction of the Singapore Grand Prix by advertising itself in that week’s edition of the bestselling TIMEOUT Magazine Singapore.

Taking advantage of the presence of F1’s stars in the city state, the advert carried the message “Dear Mr. Hamilton you can contact us for a free stay”, referring of course to the one and only McLaren driver who currently sits in 5th place in the F1 Drivers Standings.

Unfortunately for ShaSa Resorts, their advertising gimmick backfired spectacularly on them, as the phones were ringing non-stop over the Singapore Grand Prix weekend, from dozens of Mr. Hamilton’s scattered all over the country and beyond. Staff at ShaSa Resorts reckoned they must have received close to 100 calls over the duration of the Singapore Grand Prix, from eager Mr. Hamilton’s who were keen to take the hotel up on their generous offer of a free stay at their luxury resort.

Sadly for all the Mr. Hamilton’s who called, amongst them 27 John Hamilton’s and 8 Paul Hamilton’s (but sadly no LEWIS Hamilton), there simply isn’t enough room at the resort to give everyone a free bed for the night, and so they had to be let down gently with the bad news that their free room wasn’t available any more.

ShaSa Resorts manager Mr. Chawalit owned up to the embarrassing blunder, saying that “We should have realized that the readership of TIMEOUT Magazine Singapore would include more than a few Mr. Hamilton’s, given its circulation. This was an embarrassing mistake for us, one we hold our hands up to. I’d like to apologize to all the Mr. Hamilton’s kind enough to respond to our offer, and I hope they were not too disappointed!”

He added that, “Looking back at it, if we were to do that ad campaign again I think we’ll go with Kovalainen. Hopefully there won’t be quite so many of them!”
