U.S. Activist Aishah Schwartz revisits Cairo on Anniversary of Egypt's 25 Jan. Revolution

"In commemoration of the day that every Egyptian will remember the rest of their lives, they came from near and far, from all walks of life, to remember the hundreds martyred and thousands injured - and to continue in the ongoing call for justice."

Jan. 28, 2012 - PRLog -- (CAIRO, EGYPT) - As January 25, 2012 approached, I felt an urgency to be in Cairo to join Egyptians in commemorating the beginning of their revolution. Arriving the evening before, I arose the next morning well rested and headed down to Tahrir Square ahead of the masses in search of photo opportunities. I remember the feeling of elation at finding that God had blessed the day with glorious weather; inviting Egyptians to walk from near and far toward Tahrir. Some arrived to join in the celebratory spirit of the day, others to continue in making their voices heard in the ongoing call for justice and democracy.

To share with you what I saw on January 25, 2012 as I spent the day walking throughout the downtown Cairo area, I have compiled my photos into albums, three published on the London-based photojournalism website, Demotix, and another album publicly published on Facebook. You are invited to view and share the albums linked below.

In a congratulatory statement released February 11, 2011 when former President Hosni Mubarak resigned from office, I published numerous comments offered by Egyptians, and others, wishing to express their sentiments as Egypt celebrated its "Day of Victory". Among those comments, one rings particularly true to this very day,
"I am proud of the Egyptian revolution and proud to be Egyptian. Egyptians orchestrated lessons of the peoples' will and more importantly in a peaceful way. The Egyptian revolution prevailed against camels, horses, gas tanks, water hoses, police tortures, and all kinds of state terrorism. I am asking the Egyptians to stay stead fast and united. This is the beginning of democracy and a new Egypt. I celebrated today but will hold the complete celebration when the entire corrupted regime departs," stated Egyptian-American and Associate Professor of Accounting Dr. Amal Said, of Toledo, Ohio.
