The Bothwell-based player will wear the firm’s logo on his waistcoat during a number of tournaments and his image will feature on all of its publicity materials. He has also agreed to a make number of personal appearances to promote the company.
Negotiate Now was founded last year by Lyall, a serial entrepreneur, as an online forum for businesses, trades and contractors to offer discounted deals.
A loyalty card qualifies customers for discounts of up to 50% on products and services across 300 different business groups at any time. While businesses of any size are free to join the site, it is primarily focussed on helping local businesses to sell and publicise deals to customers in their area.
Following the success of Negotiate Now in Glasgow, it is to be rolled out to other cities in the UK in 2012. The company, which only recruits unemployed people, plans to recruit 60 new members of staff over the next 12 months.
Higgins, currently third in the world professional snooker rankings, said: “What attracted me to Negotiate Now is its commitment to local businesses and consumers in difficult economic times as well as helping to create jobs.
“The bedrock of the Scottish economy is its small-to-medium sized business sector and Negotiate Now helps those firms to reach their customers more effectively.
“It also helps many hard pressed Scots make their household budgets stretch that bit further and its commitment only to recruit unemployed people is a great way of creating genuinely new jobs.
“I’ve known Stephen for 24 years and I had no hesitation in supporting his company which I know will go from strength to strength.”
Lyall, who has built and sold two multi-million pound turnover businesses said: “I’m delighted to have John Higgins on board to promote Negotiate Now. John is one of Scotland’s few sporting world champions and a well-loved figure north of the border, but he’s also a very astute businessman.
“He recognizes that, in today’s tough economic climate, discounts are becoming an increasing priority for consumers. You only need to look at the way the deals website market has grown - the word discount gets typed into Google Search 25million times every month - to realise that there are big opportunities for the right business to exploit.
“Negotiate Now is Scotland’s only one stop shop for consumers, bringing them together with businesses in their town or city. As well as operating as a business directory, it also provides a simple means of publicising deals on a range of consumer goods and services, such as plumbers, undertakers, restaurants, hairdressers, photographers, tyre companies etc. as well as discounted flights, hotels and package holidays.”
