Families that received new homes through Habitat for Humanity often have little. Children rarely are free to enjoy the simple joys of childhood that most people take for granted. VMS looked at the situation and discovered a way that they could give back. They embarked on a program to provide bicycles for four local families that were a part of the Habitat for Humanity program.
VMS began by partnering with several other businesses. 3M, Sabic, Laird and Kapco all agreed to participate. Each of these companies donated $250 toward materials for the bicycle build program. Then, VMS turned within. Taking the opportunity to allow their staff to get involved while promoting team building, VMS looked to its employees to help build the bicycles that were to be built. Staff members generously donated their time to work together to build four bikes for families in need.
The first family to receive the donation was the Jones family of Twinsburg, Ohio. In December, just in time for holiday celebrations, VMS VP of Sales, Vicki Porter, and the VMS team joined Habitat for Humanity staff and volunteers in welcoming the Jones family to their new home. Vicki proudly presented the bicycle to the grateful child. The Jones family is just the first of four such families that VMS is excited to help in the local area.
“Giving back to our community in a meaningful way has been profoundly rewarding. Working side by side on a mission of kindness inspired our team like nothing else. It cultivated a sense of camaraderie and teamwork that has continued paying dividends long after everyone settled back in at the office. ”
