WHAT: The Medical Reserve Corps of Southern Nevada (MRCSN) volunteers led by Ms. Zoe Albright have collected diapers for children ranging from new born to 18 months. “We are thrilled to be a part of the 12 Months of Sharing program to help children in need at the Variety Early Learning Center” according to Ms. Albright. Ms. Albright is a local Personal Trainer and Pilates Instructor who decided to involve her LVAC students to make a difference.
“ The 12 Month of Sharing allows individuals to help people in need in our community. Every donation from $1 to $10 million helps people” according to Arnold Stalk, President, SHARE. The 12 months of sharing also highlights the need to help people all year long and not just at the holidays.
WHO: Variety Early Learning Center
In 1955, the Variety Club of Southern Nevada Tent 39 recognized the need for a day home that would care for children of working mothers. Through their efforts and with support of local hotel owners and entertainers, their vision became reality. The Divine Providence Variety Day Home opened doors in 1956 and was the first of its kind in Las Vegas. Tent 39 chose the Sisters of the Holy Family to operate the Day Home, which eventually became the independent, non-sectarian, not-for-profit known today as Variety Early Learning Center. Community need grew over the years and led to the Center expanding its services. In 1982, infant care and other programs were added, including child care scholarships to low-income families. To maintain service levels, diversity of programs and to keep pace with our community's increasing population has required support from other sources such as grants, private donors, and foundations.
Today, the Variety Early Learning Center is consistently recognized for its academic excellence and its commitment to the community to provide affordable, high quality early education for the children and their families.
