By: Windjammers Toastmasters Las Vegas, NV- The Windjammers is Las Vegas' oldest Toastmasters club with a charter date of August 8, 1958. Recently, the 53 year old club has gained recognition for its development of published authors and professional speakers. “Being a part of the Windjammers for the last 4 years has had a huge impact on the growth I have experienced in my career,” said Guy Dawson, host of the PR Connections radio show on KLAV 1230 AM and a reporter for the Henderson Press newspaper. “Our club has been so successful for so many years that it kind of rubs off on you when you join. I have learned a lot about communication and stucture from the people in Windjammers.” The Windjammers Toastmasters club has been meeting every Wednesday at 7:30 am at Denny's 3081 S. Maryland Parkway since 1978. Meetings are learn-by-doing workshops in which members develop their communication and leadership skills through impromptu speaking, taking on various meeting roles, conducting meetings and mentoring other members. Several former Windjammers have become published authors in the last few years. April Harris is the author of the book “Give Love” a collection of inspirational messages for parents and children that can be purchased at amazon.com and Linda Evans published “Engaging ESL Students Building Backgrounds” “I did not expect to write a book, learn marketing skills, craft humor and make friends when I joined Toastmasters and the organization has been essential in helping me accomplish these and more,” said Evans. “They gave me valuable feedback in my speeches to promote the book as well as various parts of my presentations outside the clubs. I grew and improved skills because the Windjammers are gentle and direct.” Norma Tanner, a toastmaster since 1996 said that the Windjammers have been successful because of it is a morning club with a diverse membership. “The Windjammers are a mixture of young people, old people, professionals and housewives,” For more information about Toastmasters, visit their website at www.toastmasters.org.
