Jan. 25, 2012 - PRLog -- Denver, CO – [January 25, 2012] With a strong 75 million Baby Boomers who range in ages 50 and beyond getting older. Private Geriatric Care Management services will be an option for most families who have to care for their elderly or disabled parents. An estimated 10 million Americans are unpaid caregivers to their spouse, child, or parents. With the poor housing market in certain parts of the United States, some seniors are finding it difficult to sell their homes that would allow them to pay for long term care. Without the income from selling their homes, many elderly people are forced to move in with their adult children or have their adult children move in with them. The estimated loss money due to adult children leaving the work force adds up to 3 trillion in wages, pension, Social Security Benefits and loss of time from work.“With the Baby Boomer Generation growing there is a need for Geriatric Care Managers to help families coordinate the healthcare of the nation’s elderly population,” said Sharron Williams. “Families will look more and more to Geriatric Care Managers to assist them in helping their parents to stay home longer or search for suitable alternatives. With the increase in dementia patients the process can become difficult if the family does not know what services they should have in place that would be different than just simply caring for mom or dad.  Geriatric Care Managers are usually Social Workers or Registered Nurses with training and or experience in geriatric services. Private Geriatric Care Managers serve as an advocate for the client and his or her family, and not for the hospital, Skilled Nursing Facility or insurance companies.
