That’s why United Way is excited to promote EITC Awareness Day on January 27. United Way encourages the community to participate in EITC Awareness Day by scheduling an appointment with Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA). VITA helps local families save an average of $331 per return in preparation fees and refund anticipation loans. The result is $390,000 saved each year in St. Joseph County.
United Way’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program helps taxpayers with an adjusted gross income of $50,000 or less prepare and e-file their taxes free of charge. IRS-certified tax preparers ensure that people claim all the deductions and credits they are entitled to, including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), a federal income tax credit available to individuals and families participating in the workforce.
On Friday, January 27, VITA will be at Goodwill Industries (1805 W Western Ave, South Bend, IN) from 10 am – 4 pm preparing and e-filing taxes for free.
