Financial Conference from Avenidas Helps Seniors Make Their Money Last a Lifetime

Avenidas pulls top financial experts together in one room for a day of intensive advice for seniors to help make sense of their financial situation.
 
Jan. 25, 2012 - PRLog -- Palo Alto Non-Profit Avenidas Hosts “Money Matters: A Financial Conference”

Workshops cover investing, taxes, sharing financial control, Medicare, social security, financial management, long-term care and more.

Palo Alto, CA (January 25, 2012) Avenidas, a non-profit organization that runs a senior center in Palo Alto, an adult day program in Mountain View, and an aging-in-place virtual retirement community throughout the Peninsula, is hosting “Money Matters: A Financial Conference” on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, from 8:30am to 2pm.

Registration starts at 8:30am and free coffee and orange juice will be served. The conference kicks off at 9am with a keynote address by the CEO of Wealth Architects, LLC, Mark Johnsen, as he unveils his “Blueprint for a Long and Wealthy Life.”

Session 1 runs from 10:15-11:15am, with three workshops:

1.)   “A look at the markets, volatility and you,” by Brian Dombkowski, President and Chief Investment Officer, Sand Hill Global Advisors

2.)   “Tax considerations for seniors,” by Darlene Hall, CPA, Tax Manager, Hood & Strong, LLP

3.)   “Don’t go it alone,” by Heather Marler, Fiduciary, Institute on Aging, Lisa Huter, Wells Fargo Private Bank, Allison Salisbury, Fiscally Fit, Inc, and Lisa Hendrickson, CEO Avenidas

Session 2 runs from 11:30am-12:30pm and features:

1.) “Getting professional investment advice,” by Jane Williams, Founder & CEO, Sand Hill Global Advisors, Sherry Langbein, CFP, VP, Financial Consultant, Charles Schwab and Co., Inc. and Barbara Krimsky Binder, CFPP

2.)   “Sharing control of your assets,” by Deborah Kramer Radin, Attorney at Law, Kramer Radin, LLP

3.)   “Strategies for maximizing spousal social security benefits,” by Sharon Lacy, CFP, Bedrock Capitol Management

Individual appointments with Session 1 and 2 presenters will be held during Sessions 2 and 3. Appointments will be held on a space available basis. Participants will be given the chance to set up appointments with the presenter at the end of each workshop.

The Final session start at 1pm after a ½ hour lunch break (meal provided). Topics include:

1.)   “Medicare explained,” by Connie Corrales, Director for Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program, Council on Aging Silicon Valley

2.)   “Planning long-term care costs,” by Carla Cumpston and Trish Karlinski, Edward Jones

3.)   “Having “The Talk,” by Tari Vickery, Life Matters Financial Group

“The goal of the conference is to provide people with advice and resources to help them make their money last a lifetime,” states Avenidas Marketing Director Kari Martell. “After getting feedback from our participants that this is the kind of conference they’d like to see us offer, we decided to add it to our existing slate of conferences, including Housing and Caregiving.”

Sponsors include Home Instead Senior Care, Channing House, Nancy Goldcamp of Coldwater Banker, Institute on Aging, Palo Alto Commons and UBS. The conference will be held at Avenidas’ Palo Alto facility at 450 Bryant Street, with free parking in the garage across the street. Registration is priced at $55 and includes lunch, a keynote speech, a choice of three out of nine workshops, access to sponsors and optional individual consultations.
