Footballers’ wives and their lives

It’s not everyone’s cup of tea but there are worse jobs in the world than being a footballers wife. Hotels in Liverpool are full of WAG wannabe’s – young girls scouting for talent of their own. This article highlights the WAGs ways.

PRLog - Jan. 25, 2012 - If you are footballer’s wife you’d appear to have hit the jackpot! It seems it’s nothing but shopping for designer clothes, being seen at the best bars, clubs and restaurants and... being the appendage of a talented sportsman.

Midfielder Steven Gerrard reputedly gets paid £120,000 a week, depending on which news story you read. With cash like that he could afford to live in a plush hotel in Liverpool, waited on hand and foot, all year.

A typical WAG – that’s Wives and Girlfiend, opps, I meant GirlFRIEND – is a beautiful model or beauty queen who has a shopping obsession, is pictured in the tabloids frequently and, most of all, has access to their partner’s bank account so they can spend, spend, spend.

Of course there are some footballers’ wives who had their own careers before becoming their man’s appendage. The most famous of all must be Victoria Beckham, or Posh Spice as she was known since being one fifth of the girl band the Spice Girls.

Victoria Beckham is THE footballer’s wife who is consistently seen in the British press and now increasingly abroad since the family spend most of their time across the pond in the States.

Despite all those millions in the bank, can’t help feeling a tad sorry for the poor dear. Everyone seems to want to see her marriage to David Beckham fail because they are the golden couple.

Being today’s celebrity royalty means they can’t go anywhere without security or without a camera lens being poked in their faces. And there is a steady stream of people wanting to make money from their association with them.

Personally, I think they are a pair of good eggs, even if they have more money than sense. Now THEY could afford to buy whole hotels in Liverpool, let alone stay in them all year round. But when you already have a very popular designer range of clothes, earn millions from brand endorsement, getting in the hotelier business is probably, let’s say, a bit too much like hard work.

So what kinds of cash are spent on what kinds of things? Coleen Rooney was recently pictured in beachwear that is estimated to have cost £800. Alex Curran was recently pictured wearing three different outfits that cost a cool £27,000. And Victoria Beckham, who must surely be the queen of the WAGS, spent a cool £35,000 on three Christmas trees.

So where do footballers in and around Liverpool live. These days you’ll find some living just a half hour’s drive from the city in Cheshire.

Manchester United star Wayne Rooney lives in a neo-Georgian mega mansion in Prestbury, Cheshire, where the garden turf alone is reputed to have cost him £50,000. His home is said to be worth £11.3 million.

Aston Villa’s Emile Heskey lives in a more modest seven-bedroomed home in Hale, Cheshire, which is believed to be worth a mere £1.65 million. Steven Gerrard lives in the Merseyside suburb of Freshfield in a £3 million mansion.

So... hotels in Liverpool are nice, but really there’s no place like a home with a swimming pool, tennis court, four high performance cars in the garage, helipad and attack dogs.
