"'Oh my gosh this is the gift of all gifts,' Austin Dress for Success Executive Director Judy Chambers said. The nonprofit has been struggling with growing pains for the past few years and the donation solves several problems for the organization. "The Austin community has been extremely generous with donations, but we were packed to the brim in our current space", said Chambers. Chambers says the new conveyor belt gives Dress for Success much needed space for clothing, but it also allows room for their Career Center, which is an important part of the organization's outreach program. Chambers said that the Austin chapter is the only one in the country to have a motorized conveyor for its clothing. The conveyor can hold upwards of one thousand items.
The mission of Dress for Success is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.
The conveyor belt was a present from William Charnes, the owner of Westbank Dry Cleaning. http://www.westbankdrycleaning.com/
"'They had a lot of unused space in the height of the lease premises,' Charnes said. 'The conveyor pulls the clothes up to the top of the ceiling and gets them off the floor so you can utilize the space underneath."
