Gridiron Celebrity Hoops Hits Indy for Super Bowl Weekend

Jan. 24, 2012 - PRLog -- INDIANAPOLIS…The sports and entertainment world will turn their attention to Gridiron Celebrity Hoops when the premier event hits Indianapolis on Saturday, February 4 at 7:00 p.m. at Hinkle Fieldhouse on the campus of Butler University. This event is dedicated to the late Reverend Charles Williams, an influential African American leader who led Black Expo as the president and who founded the Circle City Classic, a football game held in Indianapolis between historically black colleges.

Entering its 14th year, Gridiron Celebrity Hoops XIV is the only official celebrity basketball game of NFL players annually held Super Bowl weekend. This preeminent event brings together NFL players, prospective NFL draft picks, boxing champs, world-renowned wrestlers, streetballers and celebrities from music, television, and film together for an electric game of hoops. Gridiron XIV offers football and basketball fans of all ages and levels of interest, a once-in-a-lifetime chance to witness the Best of Both Worlds - their favorite football heroes playing in a competitive game of basketball alongside fun, safe, indoor sports-themed contests.  Other features of this world class event include:

Among this year's headliners are NFL wide receiver and 6-time Pro Bowl player Terrell “T.O.” Owens, Indiana Fever star and WNBA 2011 MVP  Tamika Catchings, streetballer Pat Da-Roc,  Indianapolis radio personality Tony Lamont, former Purdue and New England Patriots star Rosevelt Colvin, Pastor Jeffrey Johnson Sr. of Eastern Star Church, retired NBA great Rasheed Wallace, former Ball State University and NBA star Bonzi Wells, Grammy nominated R&B singer Tank, retired UFC mixed martial artist Chris Lytle  and  multi-platinum recording artist/actor Chris Brown. An added highlight of Gridiron Celebrity Hoops will be the performance of the National Anthem by the winner of the Soul Search singing contest, which will be held on January 28th in Indianapolis. Soul Search is a competition for amateur vocalists ages 5 to 50. The winner may be a solo artist, duo, trio, group or choir.

Proceeds from the game will benefit Juli’s Kids Motivated to Succeed and the Indiana Department of Child Services. Juli’s Kids is celebrating more than 12 years of service to more than 28,000 children. The non-profit organization’s mission is to enrich the lives of today’s abused, abandoned, neglected and homeless children.
