Jan. 24, 2012 - PRLog -- Complete Wellness Center of Orange City has made a team and is walking for American Cancer Society Relay for Life.  The Wellness Walkers, as they are calling themselves, are led by Kim A. Reddick, DC and his clinic’s massage therapist, Sharon Guest, LMT.  They are leading their walking team of employees, patients and families.  On April 20, 2012 they will put on their walking shoes at Victoria Hills in DeLand.

The annual event, hosted by American Cancer Society, raises funds for awareness and support for cancer sufferers, survivors and their caregivers.  The 18 hour event begins at 5 PM, with team members taking turns walking around the track all night, signifying the fact that cancer never sleeps.  The event culminates the next morning with closing ceremonies at 10 AM.

For the last three years, Dr. Reddick’s Complete Wellness Center of Orange City hosted a booth at the annual event.  Last year Guest and Lisa Glenn, the clinic’s receptionist, suggested forming a team for this year.  Not only is Reddick helping to lead his team but he is the Relay for Life Sponsorship Chairman, searching for cash and item donations from area companies and corporations.

“I’ve had three family members who have had cancer,” said Reddick, “This is a way I can support and honor them.”

Sharon Guest, LMT, has a strong background in marketing and promotions, especially in fundraising and organization.

“I spent 6 years as a PTA volunteer, Treasurer and President.  I worked on a lot of fundraising activities,” commented Guest.

Guest also put together The Aly Dixon Benefit Dinner at The Moose Family Center in DeBary.  Aly is the daughter of an employee who was in a car accident and is subsequently paralyzed from the chest down.  Included was dinner, a silent auction and entertainment.  The benefit raised $4000 for Aly and her mother.

Guest had a grandfather who died from lung cancer, “He passed away when I was only 10, I barely remember him now.”

More recently she had an uncle who had colon cancer, “Thankfully, he is a survivor, 13 years now.”

The Wellness Walkers have set a goal of $1500.  They are planning several ways to attain that goal:  Donations from their patients, a pancake breakfast, a silent auction and a raffle for a Flat Screen TV.  Guest has also pledged all her gratuity until the walk.

“Maybe Dr. Reddick will give a paid day off to the employee who raises the most money.  That would be nice,” quipped Glenn.
