FHTCC President Elected to Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges

Randy Berridge, President of the Florida High Tech Corridor Council has been elected by the College Delegate Assembly to serve as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

Jan. 24, 2012 - PRLog -- Heathrow, Fla. – Randy Berridge, President of the Florida High Tech Corridor Council has been elected by the College Delegate Assembly to serve as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), Class of 2014.  In his term beginning January 2012 and running through December 31, 2014, Berridge will serve as one of a 77-member body elected to implement the accreditation process for the approximately 800 degree-granting institutions within the southeastern United States that are members of the Commission on Colleges.

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges is the regional body for the accreditation of higher education institutions in the southern states that award associate, baccalaureate, master’s or doctoral degrees. The Commission’s mission is the enhancement of educational quality throughout the region and it strives to improve the effectiveness of institutions by ensuring that institutions meet standards established by the higher education community that address the needs of society and students.

Berridge also serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Florida College System Foundation which supports 28 colleges across the state and a student population of more than 880,000.  Berridge earned a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts and business from the University of Evansville in Indiana and he has completed graduate courses in marketing and finance at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The Florida High Tech Corridor Council (FHTCC) is an economic development initiative of the University of Central Florida (UCF), the University of South Florida (USF) and the University of Florida (UF).  The mission of FHTCC is to grow high tech industry and innovation through research, workforce and marketing partnerships.

A partnership involving more than 20 local and regional economic development organizations (EDOs) and 14 community colleges, the Council is co-chaired by the presidents of UCF, USF and UF.  The Council includes the presidents of two of the community colleges, the president of the Florida Institute of Technology and representatives of high tech industry.  

The unique partnership has resulted in a strategic approach to high tech economic development that involves matching funds research, workforce development and a marketing program leveraging governmental, EDO and corporate budgets on a regional rather than local basis.
