Jan. 24, 2012 - PRLog -- St. Charles, MO, January 24, 2012- Missouri Lieutenant Governor candidate, Mike Carter, today hailed the United States Supreme Court’s unanimous ruling requiring a warrant to track United States citizens with GPS technology. "This is the most important US Supreme Court decision in recent memory and maybe in my lifetime. A unanimous decision so openly respecting the Fourth Amendment in a climate in which more and more of our personal liberties are being trampled on in the name of safety, is a welcome one," said Carter.

While the judge in Wentzville Missouri, Carter said he was very intrigued when the City’s Police indicated that traffic cameras could soon be used to monitor citizens who passed through certain traffic intersections at varying times of the day. “Of course, the bent of the camera use was in the name of safety and tracking suspects, but it was alarming,” said Carter.

Carter says he is very worried about the public’s desensitization to government monitoring. “When I was a seven year old boy, we didn’t have a camera at every street intersection; now, my son and daughter have grown up with government-installed cameras everywhere - government-creep getting so deeply into our lives must be curtailed. It seems like some people believe that the government is some sort of big warm cuddly teddy bear at the helm of our lives, all the time looking out for our best interests and that’s just not the case. Rather, the government is comprised of imperfect people just like you and me that have no business meddling in other people’s everyday lives.”

"If we had wanted the government to have unfettered access to our lives, we would still be 'Loyalists' (and the like) and would have welcomed unannounced visits to our homes to see if we had any missives to friends about the King's taxation without representation and, heck, why not provide the inquisitor a place to sleep for the night in your quarters while we're at it," Carter quipped.

Carter added that he was quite surprised that more elected officials and candidates had not weighed in on this very important ruling.
