Hudson Valley Hospital Center Hosts Free Seminar on Glaucoma

Glacoma is the second leading cause of blindness. Eye professional Dr. Kerline Marcelin will speak on this misunderstood disease

Jan. 23, 2012 - PRLog -- Did you know that more than 2.2 million people in the United States have glaucoma and only half of them know it?

January is national Glaucoma Month and eye professionals like Dr. Kerline Marcelin, a board certified ophthalmologist with Hudson Valley Hospital Center, want to educate the community about this group of diseases that is the second leading cause of blindness.

Glaucoma is a complicated disease in which damage to the optic nerve leads to progressive, irreversible vision loss. Early detection through regular and complete eye exams is the key to protecting your vision.

“There are typically no warning signs of glaucoma so it’s important to schedule regular exams with your eye doctor,’’ said Dr. Marcelin. “Everyone is at risk for glaucoma, but there are certain groups who are at higher risk due to heredity.’’

Dr. Marcelin will hold a free patient education program on glaucoma on Monday, January 30 at 6:30 p.m. in the Wagner Conference Room at Hudson Valley Hospital Center, 1980 Crompond Road, Cortlandt Manor, NY. For more information, or to register for the program call 914-734-3794 or register on line at www.hvhc.org/events.
