Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) Convenes STEM Leaders

The Center for Excellence in Education will convene a meeting at their offices for Virginia STEM Leaders to discuss pertinent issues in laboratory skills for rural and urban teachers.

Jan. 23, 2012 - PRLog -- McLean, VA  - The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) will hold a meeting of leading STEM Advocates to discuss enhancement of its National Lab Skills Initiative (NLSI).  This program supports rural and urban high school teachers of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.  

The Initiative is comprised of the Clearinghouse and Professional Development.  The Clearinghouse is a cost-free compendium of online resources teachers can use in the classroom.  The program’s Professional Development component will give teachers access to research scientists, link research to the classroom, provide interdisciplinary curriculum that can be inculcated in the classroom, afford new and exciting interactive lab Internet tools for teachers, and will align with state education standards.  

The Center’s meeting will take place on Tuesday, January 24th at 8201 Greensboro Drive from 9:00 am. to 12:00 p.m. in McLean, Virginia.  The meeting will formulate the enrichment of the Professional Development component.      

Attendees of the January 24th meeting will include representatives of institutions of secondary and higher education, industry, and government.

The Center also will look to industry participants to lend their expertise in connecting the program to local economic development.  Increased economic development thorough enhanced scientific education aligns with the Initiative’s mission to assure a future talented and diverse U.S. workforce in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
