Kingston, NY (January 18, 2012)—Even as a little girl, Anastasia Wasko knew that she wanted a lifestyle that worked for her: one that centered on creativity and communication arts, not one that would simply earn her a living. Now she’s living her dream—made possible by a business opportunity she created for herself: as a consultant who helps others do the same. Wasko is the principal of the syntax rugrat, a creativity and innovation consulting practice based in Kingston, NY.

Not sure what an “innovation consulting practice” does? You’re not the only one. “A lot of people mistake rugrat for an advertising agency or copywriting service. It’s not. It is a place of co-creation,” explains Wasko.  “People are empowered by all of the information and choice that is available to them. I help them sort it out. Sometimes, all you need is a sounding board, just an open ear, to figure it all out. rugrat is the place to go to do exactly that.”

rugrat’s clients bring an idea or a challenge, and Wasko helps them turn their ideas and creative energy into content and marketing copy that will help them develop a project or small business. rugrat’s creative consulting services include “brainstorming (generate ideas),” “brain-focusing (sharpen ideas),” “constructive critiquing (review ideas),” and “problem solving (refresh ideas).”  Meetings can be held online or on-site, and many clients find that a hybrid workflow works best.  Group meetings, called rugrat spots, are classes and workshops that offer the chance to learn and practice among peers, aka “rugrats.”

A typical meeting includes an animated discussion of the idea or challenge, which leads to the generation of ideas that build upon each other. Wasko helps her clients focus in on the best options for the objective, then guides the client through the holistic process of coming up with communication for those ideas. Those who have worked with Wasko praise her ability to help her clients hone ideas, without stifling the creative process or enthusiasm. “I teach the ‘process’ for developing ideas into reality,” says Wasko. “I don’t bring projects to fruition—rather, I teach solopreneurs and small businesses how to do it themselves—how to get from the seed of an idea to the end result. At the end of our time together, they’ll have the tool kit they need to get up and go!”

Sound like fun? It is. But just like the catchy name (“A ‘rugrat’ usually refers to someone who’s not old enough for school. Rugrats learn by experiencing and creating—not by memorizing and following the pack,” says Wasko.) and the fun logo (“It’s a bouncing ball—as in, bouncing ideas.”) it is also effective and memorable. “rugrat’s services help people who have projects learn, talk, and do. We take your doodles and show you how to connect the dots to see the big picture. Then you take what you’ve learned and apply it. It is the process of taking an idea and turning it into tangible actions and concrete tasks. Gives us something to talk about,” says Wasko.

Customized information is sold in three formats: “Sessions” are the meetings, mentioned above, that are the co-creation part of the process; “Editorials” provide constructive feedback in written form—for example, a review includes suggestions for improving marketing material; and “Maps” are flowcharts that guide you through the project, ensuring that you’re in the right place at the right time with a visual guide to milestones, strategies, and opportunities. the syntax rugrat also offers editorial consulting, including developmental editing, line editing, copyediting, and proofreading. “Once you know what you are going to say, make sure that it is error-free,” says Wasko.

“Through helping others hone their ideas and figure out where to go with them, I lead them from ‘I have a job’ to ‘I’m doing what I love, loving what I do.’ It’s where I am,” Wasko says. “And it’s a suber-fab place to be!”
