Which Hair Loss Procedure is Best for You?

Weighing the pros and cons of hair loss solutions. Cosmetic Transderal Hair Replication is a new procedure used to permanently mask hair loss in men and women. This procedure involves replicating hair follicles with pigment, in a tattoo-like fashion.

PRLog - Jan. 20, 2012 - EDINA, MN--You've heard ‘em all, drugs, rugs and plugs, but have you given up and decided to just shave your head? How do you know which is the best solution for your hair loss? Are you concerned with affordability? Permanence? Detectability? Safety? Maintenance? Most likely all of the above, but each option comes with its pros and cons.

A new procedure has emerged that is one of the fastest growing and most affordable solutions to hair loss. This procedure, Cosmetic Transdermal Hair Replication (CTHR), is the process of matching a client’s unique hair follicle and replicating it tens of thousands of times with an insoluble pigment, creating the appearance of a full head of hair.

“It’s important to educate yourself about all the options for hair loss,” said Darrin Gerr, President of Good Look Ink, an international provider of CTHR. “When you’re able to evaluate each of the procedures, it’s easier to find the solution that best suits your needs.”

People of all races and ethnic backgrounds around the world are facing the same issue of hair loss that destroys their confidence, in social, personal and professional settings. So with a handful of options to choose from, how can you make the decision about what procedure is best for you?

•   Shaving- Disguising hair loss by shaving can be a temporary solution to the problem and is seen as stylish these days, as well as cheap. However, it can also have a reverse effect and put more emphasis on the areas where hair loss is most noticeable, as well as running home at 5pm before you go out to make sure people can’t see how much hair loss you really have.
•   Drugs- The use of drugs, such as Rogaine, helps to slow the progression of hair loss and may help to re-grow lost hair. Medication can also be used by hair transplant patients to encourage the growth of the transplanted hair follicles immediately following the surgery. However, this is not a cure for hair loss and patients will likely lose any hair they have gained once they stop taking the drug. This method can get expensive and can’t be used by everyone.
•   Non-surgical Hair Replication- This type of procedure, which includes CTHR, is a drug-free, affordable, undetectable and maintenance-free option that can be completed in less than one day. It can be used to eliminate, or enhance all of the above procedures. However, if you are looking for something temporary, hair replication may not be for you as it is a permanent solution.
•   Camouflaging- Products such as Toppik, Dermmatch, Couvre, sprays and make-up can be applied each day to mask hair loss. These are great for individuals who are not looking for a permanent solution, but for something to help for the time being. Unfortunately, these products must be applied daily, are often messy and can stain pillows and clothes.
•   Hair Systems- These can work for all types of hair loss, for both men and women, and have few known side effects. Hairpieces can work to cover up severely scarred hair transplant patients, and gives them the option of different hair styles, density, length and color. Unfortunately, this option requires a lot of maintenance and cleaning, and can be of concern when the heat of the summer rolls around.
•   Hair Transplant Surgery- Some advantages of hair transplant surgery include permanent results and the relief it brings to clients. However, this procedure can get very costly, and is also known to leave permanent scaring on the scalp.
“All of these different procedures can be useful as a temporary solution to hair loss,” said Gerr. “Through CTHR, we have found a procedure that can be used either on its own or in addition to other procedures to permanently mask hair loss.”
