Stephen P. Sherwood, who wrote, directed, acted in and edited the film, had this to say about receiving the award, “On behalf of the terrific cast and crew of “The Rubicon” I would like to thank The Best Shorts Competition for their recognition of the hard work and craftsmanship we have invested in this film.” He added, “This story begins with a couple in foreclosure, an all too familiar story in todays’ economy. But the theme here is that you can't let fear rule you. Sometimes the only way to move forward is to take a leap of faith.”
Producer Ted Rubin echoed this sentiment with his response, “We are pleased to receive our first set of laurels for this brilliant production, an honor which everyone involved with "The Rubicon" richly deserves.”
