The liver produces cholesterol for the human body. Whether a person suffers from an elevated cholesterol level typically remains undetected until heart attack or stroke. Therefore, one should be regularly checked up by a doctor. In case of genetic metabolic disorder, cholesterol will be visible from under the eye or the Achilles tendon.
The so-called lipoproteins transport the cholesterol from the liver through the blood to the different organs. If the cholesterol level in the blood increases, depositions in the blood vessels and vasoconstriction may be the consequences. If the blood flow to the heart now remains reduced, the myocardial muscle will not get enough oxygen and may cause the infarction. Smoking, overweight, high blood pressure and diabetics boost the heart attack that a cholesterol-conscious diet and exercise is absolutely considered.

As unsaturated fatty acids found in meat and eggs will raise the cholesterol level, a steady healthy nutrition should focus on vegetable fats and fatless meat first. The unsaturated fatty acids in fish oil, vegetable oil and cereals may even reduce the cholesterol level. Dietary fibers support the metabolism to get the cholesterol off.
For a lower cholesterol level, regular exercise is highly recommended. Endurance sports, walking, swimming or cycling are right to balance the blood cholesterol level.
