Local Comedian Looks To Revive Stand-up Comedy Scene In Colorado Springs

Tim McKenna, a local Colorado Springs comedian, seeks to unify and strengthen the stand-up comedy scene in Colorado Springs with creation of a new website, ColoradoSpringsComedy.com and a new showcase show featuring local talent as well.

PRLog - Jan. 19, 2012 - COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- COLORADO SPRINGS, CO January 18, 2012— Denver's comedy scene is booming. From open-mic nights to local showcases, debates and film screenings, Denver's got the comedy goods and the city’s talent is improving at a rapid pace, with many comics getting booked nationally in comedy festivals and several have appeared on popular television shows.

Unfortunately, aspiring comedians in the Springs have had little to no opportunity to “practice their craft” or test out new material in front of real audiences, which puts them at a serious disadvantage when compared to their fellow Denver comics, and has done little to bolster the comedy scene in Colorado Springs.  Besides Colorado Springs’ single, run-down comedy club, Loonees (located near Palmer Park & Academy across from the Rustic Hills Shopping Center), local area residents have not had much else to choose from besides making the trip up to Denver to attend a comedy show.

Long-time Springs resident and comedian, Tim McKenna, recognized a need in the community and begun work to promote comedy shows at a variety of venues in hopes to strengthen the overall comedy scene and provide our city with better access to top-quality entertainment.  McKenna’s ColoradoSpringsComedy.com touts itself as being “the best source for stand-up comedy info in the Pikes Peak Region” and is updated regularly with show information, videos and photos provided by local comedians and other talent.

On January 28, 2012, ColoradoSpringsComedy.com presents Stand Up and ROCK!, combining the region's best comedic and musical talent into one show, taking place at Stargazers Theatre and Event Center located at 10 S. Parkside Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80910.  For more information or to purchase tickets, visit http://www.coloradospringscomedy.com.

If you’ve been in Colorado Springs for long, odds are you have seen, or at least heard, Tim McKenna.  A true entertainer in every sense of the word, McKenna started his career as a DJ and later, Music Director at 98.9 KKMG Magic FM in the late 1990’s.  He hosted Adelphia’s only locally produced television game show, “Back At Ya” in 2002, and has been one of the most sought-after karaoke hosts in Colorado Springs for the last 10 years, hosting regularly at places like Rum Bay, Good Company, Navaho Hogan, 32 Bleu and the like.  Besides vocal talent, Tim is an accomplished comedian and has been working to build the comedy scene in Colorado Springs over the past several years.  In 2011 he produced the Stargazers Comedy Showcase, held once each month at Stargazers’ Theatre & Event Center and is a partner in the Stand Up or Shut Up Open Mic held the last Monday of each month at Thunder & Buttons II in Old Colorado City.
