DAVA Oncology to Present at SCOPE in Miami February 7-9

Jan. 19, 2012 - PRLog -- DAVA Oncology, LP- Chief Medical Officer and Executive Vice President of Clinical Trial Services will present at the Summit for Clinical Ops Executives (SCOPE) in Miami, Florida


Dallas – DAVA Oncology, LP will participate in the upcoming SCOPE meeting in Miami Florida on February 7-9, 2012.    

SCOPE provides an opportunity to share ideas and collaborate among professionals in the clinical operations field. SCOPE is an overarching event that brings together five conferences, each featuring specific, best-practice case studies and relevant interactive discussions. Major topics include: forecasting, site selection, recruitment, data collection, and project management. Based on data from previous years, SCOPE 2012 will be attended by over 350 participants from 15 unique countries and representing more than 220 organizations.

DAVA Oncology’s, Dr. John Eckardt and Dr. Martin Lee will address SCOPE on Lessons from Cancer Clinical Trials and on the topic Patients for Cancer Trials: Focus on the Physicians!

According to Dr. Lee, “The SCOPE meeting is one of the most important meetings of the year for clinical operations professionals. One of the key goals of this meeting is to share best practices for enhancing accrual in clinical trials.”  

Specializing in cancer clinical trials, DAVA Oncology will be in attendance to highlight a unique approach to enhancing recruitment through data-driven site selection, accrual workshops and ongoing direct physician interaction. Case studies will be presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach in the context of large, randomized clinical trials.

John Eckardt, MD serves as the Chief Medical Officer, is a board-certified medical oncologist, and trained in oncology drug development under Dr. Dan Von Hoff in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Eckardt will address Lessons from Cancer Clinical Trials underscoring the importance of finding the right investigators for clinical trials, including assessment of research infrastructure, access to appropriate patients, start-up timelines, track record of successful enrollment and, most importantly, the investigator's enthusiasm for the research question.    
 
Martin Lee, MD, Executive Vice President of Clinical Trial Services and recognized industry expert in clinical trial feasibility and patient recruitment, will speak on the topic, Recruiting Patients for Cancer Trials: Focus on the Physicians! Dr. Lee will discuss the conundrum that while cancer clinical trials are widely available, less than 5% of patients participate. The reasons for this are complex and include patient, physician, and trial-specific barriers. This session will focus on how direct peer-to-peer engagement of clinical trial investigators and their referring physicians accelerates patient recruitment in cancer clinical trials.
