Jan. 19, 2012 - PRLog -- Lights, Camera, Action! genConnect is heading to Park City, Utah to attend the 2012 Sundance Film Festival from January 19-29. We will be there to provide you video interviews with the faces behind the cameras – directors, producers and editors of the world’s best independent films.

genConnect will also follow executive producer Joan Hornig as she attends Sundance for the first time with her eye-opening documentary, “The Atomic States of America.” The film is based on Kelly McMasters’s memoir about growing up in the nuclear-reactor community in Long Island, N.Y., and illustrates the dire health consequences for many residents as the country’s rapidly increasing energy needs are fueling a nuclear renaissance.

Some of the other films genConnect will highlight include:

“West of Memphis” – The story of three Arkansas teenagers found guilty in 1994 of the ritual murder of three eight-year-old boys. Director Amy Berg examines the crime and its aftermath, providing a voice for the victims’ families, including those with doubts about whether the right people are behind bars. Directed by Amy Berg, “Lord of the Rings” director Peter Jackson helped produce the film.

“Lay the Favorite” – Starring actor Bruce Willis, this film is a beautiful girl with a big heart who leaves her dancing job at a Florida strip club to become a Las Vegas cocktail waitress. Dink, a professional sports bettor, offers her a job placing wagers all over town to gain an advantage over the casinos until his starts to get jealous. Dink’s luck runs out when Beth heads to New York to work for a bookie, which lands her on the wrong side of the law. The all-star cast also includes actors Rebecca Hall, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Joshua Jackson and Laura Prepon.

“The Other Dream Team” – In 1992 the United States sent the Dream Team to the Olympic Games in Barcelona. Considered the greatest basketball team ever assembled, these players were expected to dominate and win the gold—and that’s exactly what they did. But meanwhile, on another court, there was basketball team from the newly independent nation of Lithuania was chasing a different kind of dream. A tiny country of three million people, Lithuania won the bronze medal, beating Russia, its former oppressor.

“Indie Game: The Movie” – This world documentary spotlights a new breed of struggling independent artist: the indie game designer. Refusing to toil for major developers, these innovators independently conceive, design, and program their distinctly personal games in the hope that they, too, may find success.

“Bones Brigade” – This autobiographical film deals with cultural phenomenon of skateboarding. In the early ’80s, skateboarding was fading away until Stacy Peralta, the film’s director, brought a talented group of boys together and dubbed them the Bones Brigade. This movie chronicles their epic rise, using archival footage and first-person accounts from Brigade members Steve Caballero, Tommy Guerrero, Tony Hawk, Mike McGill, Lance Mountain, and Rodney Mullen, among others.
