Dunn’s debut single, the emotional mid-tempo burner “Can’t Forget,” has come almost out of nowhere to blaze an instant path onto the U.S. urban radio singles charts, driven by airplay that is quickly spreading across the country (major-market stations include KJLH-Los Angeles, WBLS-New York, WSRB-Chicago, WDAS-Philadelphia, WMXD-Detroit, and WYLD-New Orleans). The video, a sexy performance piece directed by Light Up Film, is also making an immediate impact: it was featured as the ‘New Joint’ on BET’s hugely popular “106 & Park,” the number one video countdown show on television. It has also been added to BET’s Centric channel, MTVU and MTV.com, VH1 Soul, mun2 and Music Choice.
“Pursuing music has always been a goal of mine,” says the 23-year-old Cleveland, Ohio native. “I’m a passionate individual, an artist, but I’ve also always had that hustler/businessman ethic.” At age 17, Dunn became the Minister of Music at his local church, a post he held for three years. He went on to write and produce songs for other artists, including American Idol finalist LaKisha Jones.
Antoine Dunn’s debut album, TRUTH OF THE MATTER, co-produced with Grammy Award winner Edwin “Tony” Nicholas (Gerald Levert), will be released on independent label Elite Music Group, Inc., in May 2012.
In addition to the growing interest generated by Dunn’s first single and video, the end of 2011 saw him complete several dates as the opening act on the popular Woo Tour with Anthony Hamilton (whom Dunn considers a musical mentor). Thousands of fans got a chance each night to see up close and personal what Antoine Dunn is really about in several cities, including Atlanta, Chicago, Charlotte and Atlantic City.
