Jensen's Community Pharmacy Opens In Saline Michigan

Jan. 18, 2012 - PRLog -- Jensen's Community Pharmacy is a locally owned and operated independent pharmacy which opened January 16th to serve the Saline area.  Steven Jensen, the owner and sole pharmacist, is a graduate of the University of Michigan Pharmacy School with a Doctor pf Pharmacy degree (PharmD).  He has worked in community pharmacy the whole of his career and just recently decided to make the transition to self-employment.  After working for a national chain pharmacy for nine years, Steve grew disillusioned by the corporate model of pharmacy.  Professionally the things that mattered to Steve were not what the corporation was concerned about.  Short staffing in pharmacies is a major concern currently and most chains continue to decrease staffing though workload increases.

"I want to be able to engage patients not just tell them where something is on the shelf.  Many patients when asked if they have any questions say no but they don't know that there are important precautions with some medicines.  I want to be available to communicate with my patients and I didn't feel I could do that in my previous work conditions" Steve says when asked the motivations to open his own pharmacy.  

The pharmacy offers many over the counter products, home medical devices, diabetic supplies and footwear, as well as traditional prescriptions dispensing.  Compounded medication services are also available on site.  This is the practice of creating individualized medications for both humans and animals when a commercially available product is not effective or there is an allergy to one of the components.  Currently compounding services are offered only in nearby Ann Arbor.  Working with local physicians and veterinarians, Steve hopes to find a niche with customizable medications.
