Jan. 17, 2012 - PRLog -- These days it can be all but impossible to get an audience to leave their comfy couches and battle traffic (not to mention parking) for a night of theatre. Solution? The one-woman web series, SchloerBITS, is single-handedly written, performed, animated, edited, and distributed by actress/comedian Amy Schloerb, and currently airing at SchloerBITS.com, Blip.tv, and YouTube.

“SchloerBITS really is a one-woman show and not just because it’s performed by a woman” says Amy Schloerb. “All the elements related to its creation and distribution are done by one woman, me. It really is the most extreme example of a solo show.”

First released in September of 2011, there are currently 17 episodes and Schloerb has no plans to halt production. “I start with an idea that I find funny. I try not to worry what others will think, so if something tickles me enough, I’ll probably make a SchloerBIT about it.” So far topics have ranged from “Facebook” to “Kid Jokes” to even a love song about “Angry Birds” and most are appropriate for general audiences. Keeping with their diminutive nickname, all “BITS” are around 90 seconds, subscribing to the theory that internet audiences like their entertainment quick and snappy.

Schloerb complements her comedic musings with stylized, kid-like drawings. “I use a very basic painting program on my computer and have found that I actually draw better using that then I do in real life, which may not be saying much” laughs Schloerb. “The animations are somewhat crude, but I think that enhances the comedy in a weird way.”

By adding visuals to stand-up style comedy, SchloerBITS tell jokes through both audio and visual means. In an episode called “Chain Letters” as the audience hears Schloerb talk about the “dire consequences” of deleting an email forward, they also see what she believes are “dire consequences” - a tombstone, an audit letter from the IRS, and an empty toilet paper roll. “I always try to make sure the drawings add another layer to my vocal performance. I think it’s funnier to show something rather than say it outright.”

And so far audiences are “liking” and positively commenting on what they’re seeing. “Freakin' hilarious. Welcome to the world of standup. You're already killin' it!” comments touring comedian Rajiv Satyal of FunnyIndian.com. Schloerb welcomes fan comments of all kinds on Facebook, Blip.tv, and YouTube.
