1st Uttarayan Celebrations at AlphaOne, Ahmedabad

Jan. 17, 2012 - PRLog -- On the auspicious occasion of Uttarayan – the Festival of Kites, January 14, 2012, AlphaOne, Ahmedabad organized a two-day festive workshop for Kite Making on 12th and 13th January 2012, for all Amdavadis. Uttarayan is one of the biggest, most awaited festivals in Ahmedabad, with lots of colors, games, shopping and food. The team at AlphaOne also celebrated this festival with equal vigour, giving all Amdavadis a special Uttarayan. They had put up decorations with colourful kites and firkis starting January 9th at AlphaOne. They wanted to bring this festive flavor, through the decoration and activities which helped them connecting with their patrons in real Apnu Amdavadi style. This activity surely made their strong presence in the heart of millions of Amdavadis who came, shopped, ate and celebrated Uttarayan with them.

Many families in Gujarat enter into the cottage business of kite making months before the festival of Uttarayan. Emulating this very sentiment, AlphaOne also held Kite Making Workshops on January 12th and Kite Making Competition on January 13th for all those who wanted to make their own kites. The Kite Making Workshop had the specialist guiding kids and other patrons on the art of making kites. Patrons were supplied with paper and other materials and were asked to make their own kites at the end of the workshop. The specialist conducted series of workshops for the kids and patrons for over 3 hours from 4PM to 7PM on January 12th. There was the Kite Making Competition on January 13th for which materials were supplied by AlphaOne. Participating patrons got an allotted time to make their kites. Winners were declared and their kites were showcased on the big AlphaOne Kite that was placed in AlphaOne’s Central Atrium throughout the Uttarayan Celebrations.

Uttarayan is the day when the sun starts to travel northwards marking the decline of winter. The festival is celebrated over 2 days – 14th and 15th January. For these two days, Amdavadis stage themselves on their roofs or on common grounds, holding kite flying competitions with neighbours and families. People of all ages fly kites from dawn to dusk. Crowded rooftops, fun-loving rivalry to outdo each other in kite flying skills and delicious traditional Gujarati feast are the hallmarks. A feeling of anticipation, joy and jubilation grips all who celebrate the occasion of thanksgiving and merry-making.
