Where The United Nations Used To Be
Curated by Caleb Duarte and Mia Eve Rollow
Artists’ Reception, Thursday February 2nd, 6-9pm

The Red Poppy Art House is pleased to present, Where The United Nations Used To Be, curated by Caleb Duarte and Mia Eve Rollow, co-founders of EDELO, the Poppy’s sister Art House in San Cristobal De Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico.

Where The United Nations Used To Be, highlights twenty artists, collectives and performative events that have taken part in the art and artist residency program of EDELO. These works represent both local and international artists, activists, inventors, paramedics, self taught architects, energy workers, shoe shiners, dancers, fire dancers, political prisoners, Zapatista painters, farmers, and art presenters. It reflects the diversity in practices of the EDELO project; from Rigo, 23, and his Autonomous Space Program in collaboration with Zapatista communities, (to be exhibited at the Red Cat Museum in Los Angeles California in April of 2012) to public intervention like (BOLEROS) a group of shoe shinning children of the center plazas of San Cristobal de Las Casas.

The Red Poppy Art House and EDELO wish to create an inter-communal exchange forum of diverse practices from all areas of the planet - where individuals from various walks of life exchange thoughts and actions as gifts.  With this exhibition, we hope to share the many experiences of art from outside Western traditions and the defined disciplines of art production.
