Boerke and Plumides have been friends for many years and started their collaboration on the book several years ago. The Adventures of Caterwaul the Cat: Feline Pie was published in the fall of 2011 by BQB Publishing of Georgia and has consistently built a following of fans and five star reviews. The book is available in paperback from http://www.shop.boutiqueofqualitybooks.com on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Books A Million and as an ebook through Kindle, Nook, and iTunes.
Boerke is a history professor and Plumides has a young son, so they are both big proponents of positively affecting the lives of kids and getting them interested in reading. “Statistics show that kids who read do better in almost every other aspect of life than kids who don’t read,” states Boerke, “and we want to help make a difference where we can.”
Jack Anthony, a parent, blogger, and host of the Jack at Night Radio Show commented that “The Adventures of Caterwaul the Cat: Feline Pie is a wonderful, immersive book which kids in late elementary and middle school will read willingly and with enthusiasm. Anyone with kids this age knows how challenging it can be to tear kids away from the computer or video games to read a book. Art Boerke and Damon Plumides bring their characters to life, and engage the students unlike any of the guest readers we’ve seen in our school.”
David, an eighth grade student penned this note after the authors’ visit. “I want to be a writer. They said things to make me believe in myself. I’d never written anything like what I gave my teacher to read after their visit. It was a story about bullying and standing up for yourself.”
Boerke and Plumides visit schools in person or via Skype, depending on where the schools are located. The authors do not charge a stipend for the visits; they simply ask that their book be made available for advance purchase for the students who are interested. They can be contacted either via their website at http://www.Caterwaulthecat.com or by filling out the contact form on their publisher's site at http://www.boutiqueofqualitybooks.com
