Many people think I am crazy to attack the educational system with fierceness. Yet, every day I walk outside of my door to the intense poverty of Detroit. Every day I am reminded that forty eight years after Dr. King spoke this segment in his speech “the Negro still lives on a lonely island of poverty.” But what struck me the most is when George Bernard Shaw argued that "The greatest of evils and the worst of crimes is poverty, " in the Preface to his play, Major Barbara, published in 1907.
Rather than wish someone else change this condition, I chose to be change I wished. I chose to disrupt education, as like Nelson Mandela, I believe “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” I also believe that every child should have an education that is rigorous, relevant and full of positive inspiring relationships that will life them out of poverty as it did for me.
See, I was born to two high school dropouts and could have become a statistic of poverty. Yet, education carried me to the University and then Corporate America. That pipeline from Kindergarten to University to Corporate America must be accelerated to move million out of poverty. Join me in my newest project, FlukeTM - the wealth building game of accidental inventions.
