Getting ready for a wedding - the planning starts here

The wedding organizers at Down Hall hotel in Hertfordshire know a thing or two about weddings. Firstly, there are a thousand and one things to think about when planning a wedding so you’re going to need to start making a list!

Jan. 16, 2012 - PRLog -- So... you’ve been invited to a wedding and once the surprise and delight has gone through your mind you are probably thinking about the expense. That’s probably what the father of the bride is thinking, too.

Well here are some practical tips about going about preparing for the big day. Firstly, you need to ensure you notify the bride’s parents that you are able to come. This isn’t rocket science but it is general etiquette to reply in writing. Sending a text message saying, “Yeah, I’m in,” just isn’t good enough on this occasion.

Besides, there are many brides who keep these responses as part of her growing keepsake memorabilia about her big day – and yes, it’s probably only the bride who thinks this way, not the groom.

Then it’s tradition in the UK that the wedding guests give a gift to the bride and groom to help them set up home. However, these days as so many men and women are leaving it later to get married, and many women have full-time jobs by this stage, many couples have already set up home individually before co-habiting.

It means they probably already have two of everything, so the classic gift of a toaster or something else might not be what they want. These days many couples set up a wedding-present list that is left at a department store and guests to their wedding in Hertfordshire, Norwich or Ipswich for that matter, simply tell the store what their budget is and then buy off that list accordingly.

Many couples simply ask for vouchers so they can go out and buy what they want after the event when they have had time to fully consider what they really want. After all, it’s not in the budget of many guests to buy a lovely piece of furniture, but if the wedding couple have asked for John Lewis vouchers, for instance, they can pool their vouchers to buy a lovely sideboard or dining room table and chairs.

Once the gift is bought, you’ll need to get yourself kitted out for the big day. This always seems more pricey for the ladies than the gents generally because the accessories bump up the price tag so much. At most British weddings these days you’ll see a massive array of wonderful hats on the heads of female guests plus matching handbags and shoes.

Collectively, hats, shoes, bags and then the dress can cost a pretty penny, but there are many places where you can hire some, or all, of your outfit. There is one rule though: never outshine the bride. For the gents, if you are part of the wedding party you may need to hire your morning suit.

Morning suits come in wildly varying styles: frock coats, tails, three-piece suits, all with or without top hats. Some grooms prefer to get married in a Tuxedo, mostly in America and Australia. But for a traditional wedding venue in Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire or Yorkshire, the staff there have seen it all before. Just turn up safely and enjoy. And if you are going to have a few drinks, leave the car, take a taxi or stay overnight somewhere within walking distance.
