“Being made redundant really made me think about how I could secure a career that was effectively future proof. I’d already been thinking of retraining as a gas engineer so when I qualified for support from a Government backed redundancy scheme I took the leap and contacted gas training company Brookhouse Training in Bradford. Says Colin.
“I haven’t looked back. The standard of training I received was extremely high. An important part of the course was gaining hands-on experience and during my time with Brookhouse I didn’t have to worry about organising a placement for myself - this was all taken care of by the company for me and I felt this real, on-the-job part of the course was invaluable. I now have the security I was looking for and career satisfaction”
Colin is now fully-qualified and trading independently as a gas engineer. He has a steady stream of work through a sub-contracting agreement with another company and has found security and satisfaction outside of the Army.
James McConnell, Director at Brookhouse Training says: “Helping Colin re-train and apply his skills and focus within another career has been a pleasure. It’s heartening to see there is a future for the men and women that serve our country and we are honored to be involved with helping their transition to Civvy Street.”
