Jan. 16, 2012 - PRLog -- At NorthWestJobs.org.uk we understand how difficult and disheartening it can be searching for a job, so we have come up with a few top tips to help you get that dream career in 2012.

Time Management – Applying for jobs and going for interviews is a very time consuming process and it can become laborious which leads to some conceding defeat. This year, think about your job search as a new start and do some planning so you can set aside time dedicated to searching for jobs. This way, you will be able to focus your attention without worrying about anything else.

Research – This is a key task both for finding jobs and applying to them. You need to ensure you are searching for the right terms associated with the job you are after. If you are looking for an I.T. job, there may be a huge variety of words used to describe the same job. Also when applying for jobs, you need to ensure you fully understand the job description in order to make sure your covering letter applies to that specific role. There is nothing worse than reading a covering letter which doesn’t display that you have correctly researched the job role and/or company you are applying for.

Networking – It’s all about who you know! Networking is a fantastic way to find out about jobs which you may not have previously found.  This can be done at events held for people within your industry or even through chatting to friends of friends and new people. Knowing someone in the company for whom you are applying for a job, can be a great foot in the door and could get you a job more easily.

Ensure your CV is up to date – Lastly, but most importantly, you need to make sure that your CV is completely up to date. It is best to think of your CV as an advert and if your advert doesn’t stand out, then you won’t get the chance to shine in the interview. If you aren’t very good at writing about yourself, why not consider asking a friend for their opinion? It is easier for someone else to point out your strengths than be able to pick up on them yourself. You also need to make sure that the spelling on your CV is 100% correct – this may sound obvious but thousands of CV’s will be discounted because they have incorrect spelling or grammar.
