Meningococcal Disease & Neisseria meningitidis Exposed in New Online Video

Jan. 15, 2012 - PRLog -- Today, the IAQ Video Network and Cochrane & Associates announced the release of another online video to help educate the public about issues that may impact their health.  The latest educational video discusses meningococcal disease and Neisseria meningitidis.

Meningococcal disease describes infections caused by the bacterium Neisseria meningitidis. Since the early 1990s, outbreaks of meningococcal disease have occurred with increasing frequency in the United States.  

Neisseria meningitidis has become a leading cause of bacterial meningitis in the United States.  In fact, Streptococcus pneumoniae and Neisseria meningitidis are today the leading causes of bacterial meningitis.

“The bacterium originates harmlessly in a significant number of the general population,” reported Paul Cochrane, President of Cochrane and Associates, the company behind the IAQ Video Network and the new public outreach video.  “It can later however invade the blood stream and the brain, causing illness.  We hope this video helps to educate people about ways to protect their health from this microbial pathogen.”
