Jan. 14, 2012 - PRLog -- BIG ARTS FORUM Lecture Series welcomes Dr. Michael A. Levi to Sanibel Sunday, January 22, to speak about the future of energy. In its tenth season, the FORUM Lecture Series is nationally recognized for inviting distinguished speakers and experts each year to Sanibel to speak about the key issues of our time. Dr. Levi’s lecture, titled "The Future of Energy," begins at 7:30 p.m. in BIG ARTS Schein Performance Hall, 900 Dunlop Road.

An expert on climate change, energy security, arms control and nuclear terrorism, Dr. Levi is the David M. Rubenstein Senior Fellow for energy and the environment at the Council on Foreign Relations. He is a former Director of the Federation of American Scientists’ Strategic Security Project and author of On Nuclear Terrorism. His 2005 monograph, "Untapped Potential: U.S. Science and Technology Cooperation with the Islamic World," is the first comprehensive study of science and technology in the Muslim world. Dr. Levi has testified before Congress and presented expert scientific evidence in essays published in "Foreign Affairs," "Nature," "Scientific American" and "The Wall Street Journal." He holds a Master of Arts in physics from Princeton University and a Ph.D. in war studies from the University of London.

Dick Wright, Chair of BIG ARTS FORUM Lecture Series, developed the program in 2003 to provide island residents with opportunities for continued education and intellectual engagement. Since its inception, the program has welcomed to the island such notable speakers as Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Senators Russ Feingold and Susan Collins, Ted Koppel, Donna Shalala and Porter Goss. Upcoming speakers include Senator Alan K. Simpson, co-chair of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform (Feb. 8); Stuart Rothenberg, editor and publisher of The Rothenberg Political Report (Feb. 19); and Dr. Geoffrey Kemp, Director of Regional Strategic Programs at the Center for the National Interest (Feb. 26).

This season’s FORUM lecture series is sold out. Although BIG ARTS cannot guarantee ticket availability, tickets have typically become available the night of a lecture when a series ticket holder is unable to attend. Available tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis for $35.
