Jan. 13, 2012 - PRLog -- The EB-5 Investment Based Green Card allows investors to obtain lawful permanent resident status if they meet certain requirements.  Over the past few years the program has become increasingly popular as the process has become increasingly efficient and streamlined.   Currently, however, the EB-5 program is set to expire in September of 2012, but with the economy in its current state there is little chance it will expire.   Particularly in light of the fact that it has strong proponents such as President Obama and broad bipartisan support in the House and Senate.

Under EB-5, foreigners who invest at least $500,000 can get conditional residency for themselves, their spouses and their children. This residency can become permanent if the investment produces at least 10 jobs in areas of high unemployment and the applicant meets certain other requirements.

The number of EB-5 applicants ballooned to 3,800 nationally in the 12 months ending Sept. 30.  This is a nearly 400% increase in two years. The program has a cap of 10,000 visas a year.

Currently EB-5 applications take about 6 months for initial processing but proposals have been made to offer "premium processing," which would take just 15 days.

If an individual is interested in the EB-5 investment based program It is crucial to work with an experienced immigration attorney when applying.
