Follow on Google News | National Comedy “Bye Bye Liver” Says “Hello, Key West!” on January 20, 21The culmination of an audition and rehearsal process that started in October, “Bye Bye Liver: The Key West Drinking Play” (BBL) opens this weekend with 7:30pm performances on January 20, 21 at the Hog’s Breath Saloon’s upstairs cabaret.
By: Highway Key Touring Combining sketch comedy and interactive drinking games to craft a uniquely formatted experience, BBL was originally launched by The Pub Theater Company in Chicago in 2006. At once celebrating and critiquing our collective love affair with the adult beverage, BBL been re-invented in the years since for audiences in Milwaukee, St. Paul, St. Louis, Toronto and Philadelphia. Far from being clones of the original, each ensemble starts with The Pub Theater Company’s scripted comedy as a base, and layers on the unique flavors of its host city’s local drinking culture. Drawing from a large playbook of sketches and games, BBL aims to create shows that are fast, fun, intoxicatingly interactive and vary each night. Originally tapped by The Pub Theater Company to help launch the St. Louis expansion in 2010, Key West operations are overseen by Chicago-trained director and promoter, Casey Scott. Scott has maintained a local office for international talent agency Highway Key Touring since 2004, and been responsible for booking many of the island’s notable touring bands through the years, including Albert Castiglia, Big Bill Morganfield, Larry McCray, Ronnie Baker Brooks, The Spam Allstars and Zac Harmon, to name a few. Striving to assemble the best and brightest performers from among the denizens of Key West nightlife, BBL has recruited and fostered a colorful ensemble of local comedic talent, including Wayne Jarvela, Li Jones, Michele Meck, Chad Newman, “Cannonball” Shows range from about seventy-five to ninety minutes and patrons are encouraged to arrive at least thirty-minutes prior to curtain to guarantee seating. After each performance, the performers and crew host a cast party where audience members can mingle and raise a glass with their favorite players.
