Jan. 12, 2012 - PRLog -- (Fort Lauderdale, FL) - HeartCamp speakers and attendees gather at The Hyatt Regency, Pier Sixty-Six on February 4, 2012 during National Heart Month to discuss matters of the heart -- the physical, spiritual and creative aspects of what it means to be human, with a focus on relationships of all kinds -- relationship to the heart, body, self, others and soul.  Topics include heart health, nutrition, sex, romance, career, parenting, writing, depression and more.

Speakers include Dr. Sonjia, America's sex therapist, Dr. Elizabeth King, founder of the International Holistic Center, volunteers from the American Heart Association and nutritionist Rachel Katz. Subjects range from Parental Alienation to Food for Mood, Stories from the Heart, Gender and Coping with Anxiety Disorder, among many others.

HeartCamp is modeled after the technology-focused international unconference BarCamp, operating worldwide since 2005.  As described in the Wiki, the ad-hoc style was born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. Speakers present in an informal fashion, followed by a question-and-answer opportunity for the audience.

A first of its kind in terms of topic, HeartCamp South Florida pioneers what could be many similar 'camps' around the world. Award-winning Miami-based writer and social media infuencer Maria de los Angeles, the visionary behind HeartCamp, was inspired by South Florida BarCamp events and her own heart troubles dealing with severe anxiety disorder.

"I want to give back and build a new community," she said. "Bring people together under one roof who care about matters of the heart but don't typically meet under the same roof -- medical professionals, sex therapists, novelists, relationship coaches, healers, nutritionists, yoga teachers plus your average inspired folks with great stories to tell about their own heart experiences. No one speaker lords it over here. We're all participants. The audience will be encouraged to share, especially at the closing group panel."

HeartCamp is a grassroots, no-profit effort and a labor of love.  Sponsorship and exhibitor opportunities are available at modest donations to support basic costs related to the event. All proceeds go back to HeartCamp.

HeartCamp begins with registration at 8:00 a.m. followed by 45-minute concurrent sessions with one lunch break. The final open session is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. and a networking cocktail reception follows at 6 p.m. HeartCamp tickets are $30 and include admission, coffee and water service plus lunch for the day and selected discounts at the after party. Parking is $3 for HeartCamp attendees. Registration is required. The deadline is February 1, 2012.

Maria de los Angeles is available for phone, email, online or in person interviews.
