By: Michael Pouls If your child walks or rides a bike to school, remind her/her of the approved route he may take. Remind him not to deviate from this route, and remind him what homes along the way are lived in by family friends you have approved as emergency places to go to for help, should the need arise. Child safety advocate, Michael Pouls adds, “Walkers and bikers should always use the buddy system, walking to and from school with a friend.” On the other hand, if your child rides the bus to school, remind her never to play in the street while waiting for the bus to arrive, and make sure she knows her bus number. “Children who take the bus should always stand with a group of their peers, and never wait for a bus alone,” explains Michael Pouls. Whether your child walks to school or takes the bus, remind him/her never to accept a ride from anyone without your prior approval. Your child should be taught that you will never ask anyone to provide transportation without first personally letting him/her know. A common ploy of child abductors is to say, “Your mom told me to come pick you.” Make sure your child never becomes a victim of this ploy! For other child safety tips, please visit michaelpouls.info.
