Frost & Sullivan: Mining Industry Emerges the Mainstay of SEA and ANZ Gear Drives and Motors Market

Australia’s Trade Relations with China Prove Double-edged for Local Gear Manufacturers

 
PRLog - Jan. 10, 2012 - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Metals and mining is the largest end-user industry for the Southeast Asia and Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) gear drives and gear motors market and ANZ has abundant reserves of natural resources such as iron, copper and gold. This would explain ANZ’s dominance over the gear drives and motors market revenue, as this region alone accounted for US$350.0 million of the total US$440.0 million market revenues in 2010.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, Southeast Asia and ANZ Gear Drives and Gear Motors Market, finds that the market earned revenues of US$440.0 million in 2010 and estimates this to reach US$638.4 million in 2017.

“There has been a rise in demand for raw materials from nations such as China, which has boosted the prospects of the regional mining industry and subsequently, the gear drives and motors market,” says Frost & Sullivan Senior Research Analyst Kaushik V.

China’s rapid development has spawned a need for raw materials, and Australia with its bountiful natural resources, has been able to leverage a strong partnership with the country.

Many Chinese companies have begun to acquire or invest heavily in the Australian mining sector. However, this influx has resulted in the Chinese companies preferring Chinese brands to the local ones for use in their equipment. Regional manufacturers are not likely to be perturbed by this trend, since most end users perceive Chinese goods as being inferior-quality units.

While the demand from the mining industry has strengthened the market, there is likely to be a dip in demand from industries such as water and wastewater and construction. Manufacturers in Southeast Asia and ANZ are on the back foot because only limited fabrication and assembly is possible in these regions.

Gear drives and motor manufacturers should also pay close heed to end-users preference for suppliers that are capable of providing a range of solutions. This means that niche players that offer specialized products and services will lose ground to the bigger participants that offer greater variety.

“Successful gear manufacturers are the ones that offer gears that are flexible enough to make use of different power sources, such as electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic, and provide varying levels of torque and speed,” notes Kaushik.
