Empica public relations, with its headquarters in Long Ashton, Bristol and a satellite office in London, provides publicity services to major businesses across the country.
Clive Burlton, a Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, was formerly Investor Relations Manager and Head of Human Resources at Wessex Water and has played key communication roles within Lloyds Banking Group and provided strategic advice to major PLCs.
He will be supporting Empica in developing new business and in potential acquisitions of other related businesses.
Martin Powell, owner and Managing Director at Empica, said: “The last three years have been tough in the media sector as the twin effects of a fast-changing media scene and the recession have created a challenging environment.
“We believe the time is right to expand. We will be providing businesses that have a strong interest in the South West with an agency that has the resources to carry out all its publicity needs from strategic support at board level, crisis management through stakeholder relations to managing and creating media exposure.
“Clive’s experience is just what we need to support those plans.”
Clive Burlton said: “I have known Martin and the team at Empica for many years and been impressed with the service they provide so it is exciting to now join the team.
“We will be looking for new clients that will benefit from the services of a dynamic PR and marketing agency.
“A number of individuals have started small PR agencies in the last few years and we are keen to talk to those that have been successful and are now facing challenges as they expand.
“Empica has roots going back 21 years, as it was formerly Martin Powell Communications, so it is an experienced business with a wide range of clients.”
Among Empica clients are electricity generator npower, long-established holiday business Bakers Dolphin, worldwide property agency Colliers International and business space providers SEGRO.
The team includes experienced journalists and PR professionals, who have gained a reputation for providing mainstream media and web-based outlets with strong stories. The team have also been involved in some of the South West’s biggest headline grabbing stories over the last 10 years.
