Jan. 9, 2012 - PRLog -- Choosing tile colours for the kitchen depends on the type of style you like, the colours you already have in the kitchen and the type of overall tile design you want. Home owners can opt for a traditional design, contemporary design or modern theme and of course it is always advisable not to have too many conflicting tile colours together which would create a conflicting and busy design and ultimately make the kitchen area either appear too small or mismatched.

The most important aspect of choosing wall tile colours and designs is to choose the wall tile colour and design you want for the larger body of the kitchen; this doesn’t include countertop tile colours or backsplash colours. Home owners can choose any wall tile colours they want and there are many to choose from. The common theme is to go with neutral wall tile colours such as crème or white in the event of using vibrant colours in other areas. This also lends the possibility to use darker countertop tile colours or other darker countertop materials. If both darker tile colours are chosen for the wall tiles and the countertop tiles, this can make the room appear too dark. Many home owners like the idea of darker countertop tiles and with a neutral wall tile design, this works really well.
The backsplash areas in the kitchen include the areas behind cookers and sinks and many home owners choose to make this a real focal point.  Kitchen countertop tiles can be almost any material and natural stone tiles are a popular choice. In this instance natural stone can also be included on the backsplash area which would give a flowing design style in the kitchen area.

If the kitchen countertop tiles or kitchen worktop tiles are darker shades such as black or grey, home owners can use a real contrast and use vibrant and bright coloured tiles in the mosaic tile family. Mosaic tiles can be used on the backsplash area to give real contrast to the countertop tiles.  Mosaic tiles are smaller tiles which come in many variations, materials and colours.

The colour of kitchen wall tiles often change as the trends change but home owners don’t have to pick a colour that is particularly in vogue. In general lighter colours attract space and will absorb light and too many darker coloured wall tiles may make the room appear smaller. The key is to use a mixture of both in the right quantities. Darker spaces in a room can be made brighter by using brighter and more vibrant coloured wall tiles and this will make a focal point in this area also.
