PRLog - Jan. 8, 2012 - MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- I was able to accomplish my dream of becoming a professional basketball player. The steps are not easy but the concept is fairly simple. I'm about to share with you what are some of the things responsible for my accomplishment.
First, it is very important that you understand that the game is more mental than physical in my opinion. Although that's my opinion your physical ability is important also. You must be solid in all areas of the game. What I mean is that you must be able to rebound, play defense, shoot, dribble and pass. Being able to perform in every situation is vital to your success.
Being solid in all of those areas is not alone enough to make it pro though. You must be able to do something above average. This is what separates you from everyone else. Anyone that's going to become a pro will be able to perform in all areas of the game. They will also have at least one area of the game that they are above average in.
You must be above average in something also. You may ask why? Teams expect you to be able to perform in all areas on that level of the game. They will also need particular things from you more than others. For example, let's say you are a guard and the Lakers are interested in you to become their next point guard.
Do you think that they will be acquiring you to become their top scorer? No they have Kobe Bryant (laughs). Will they expect you to be able to score if the situation arises? You better believe it. So that's why you must be solid in all areas. In this example you would need to be an above average passer.
They will need you to be able to get that ball to Kobe in any situation. So now you Wes how do I become above average in something? The answer is simple. You must consistently practice at it. What do you need to do when your practicing? I would say that it's very important to study the fundamentals to make sure that your doing it correctly to give yourself the best chance at being effective.
Once you have the fundamentals down then you'll be able to build from there. That's the strategy that I used to become a good shooter. You can follow those simple tips to become above average in the area that you are after. Become fundamentally sound then consistently practice at the things you practice.
The next and last tip that I will give you today is maybe the most important. You must treat yourself like you're already a pro. This allows you to mentally do what it takes to accomplish your dream. By having this mindset you will tell yourself that by being a pro you must put in extra time in the gym to get something right.
You will also tell yourself that you must dress a certain way to get a positive vibe and perform well. Then you will tell yourself I want to go put up extra shots to have an advantage over my opponent that isn't putting up the extra shots.
That's my blueprint to becoming a pro. When I look back it was fairly simple because doing all of those things were easy to do. Not physically necessarily but mentally. It was easy to go put in the extra time because the game of basketball is a passion. When it becomes a passion that makes you feel incomplete when you're not doing then you're on your way!
I have put together free training videos and programs to help others with accomplishing their dreams. You can get access to this stuff at my website How Do You Play Basketball. This where you'll get a visual of my tips and strategies.
Thank you for your time. Remember you are a champion everyone just doesn't know it yet!
