Wellington Road In Manassas, Va. Now Open With Four Lanes; Manassas Mayor Hal Parrish Cuts Ribbon

Jan. 11, 2012 - PRLog -- The City of Manassas Department of Public Works and Utilities officially completed the Wellington Road Widening Project, between Godwin Drive and Nokesville Road in Manassas, Va. with Manassas Mayor Hal Parrish and city council members cutting the ribbon to open the road. Construction of the Wellington Road project began in 2010 and was completed in approximately 17 months. The road has been widened from two to four lanes to help alleviate the increased traffic flow from continuing growth in Prince William County and from an increase in commuter volume to and from the Prince William campus of George Mason University.  The project was designed by Whitman, Requardt, and Associates of Fairfax, Va., while Martin & Gass, Inc. of Alexandria Va. was awarded a $6.1 million construction contract to perform the work.   Project funding was sourced from a combination of local, state and federal funds, including funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009.

“Wellington Road is a gateway for many commuters and we saw the need for expansion…so we’re excited to open up this vital roadway for Manassas,” said Mike Moon, director of public works and utilities for the City of Manassas.  “We appreciate the diligence and collaborative efforts of Manassas City staff, the Virginia Department of Transportation, the design consultant and the general contractor,” said Moon.
