Long-Running “Bye Bye Liver” Says “Hello, 2012!”

PRLog (Press Release) - Jan. 6, 2012 - “Bye Bye Liver,” (BBL) the Chicago-born sketch comedy revue being re-invented for downtown St. Louis audiences on the cabaret stage at Maggie O’Brien’s since September 2010, is now counted among the longest-running comedies in St. Louis memory. Drawing from a large playbook of sketches and participatory drinking games, BBL creates shows that are fast, fun, intoxicatingly interactive and vary from week to week.

Since the The Pub Theater Company’s “Bye Bye Liver: The Chicago Drinking Play” debuted in 2006, the show has sired spin-offs in Milwaukee, St. Paul, St. Louis, Philadelphia and Toronto with expansions currently being produced for Nashville and Key West, as well. Far from being clones of the original, each ensemble starts with The Pub Theater Company’s scripted comedy as a base, and layers on the flavors of local drinking culture.

Benefitting from a combination of veteran leadership and infusions of fresh talent, the St. Louis’ ensemble still employs several of its original cast members. Bartender/emcee Bill Finkbiner, comedienne DeAnna Jarrell Massie, character-rolodex Todd Moore and pratfall-man Joey Walsh and have worked together since the very beginning while seeing many extensions to the show’s run. More recent castings have netted the talents of Terrie Carolan, Kate Carpenter, Brian Kappler, Crystal Owens, and accompanist Matt Belt.

“Bye Bye Liver: The St. Louis Drinking Play” kicks off the 2012 season this Saturday January 7 at 8pm. Tickets are on-sale now for events through February at $14 each. Advance purchase is recommended at www.byebyeliver.com/stlouis or by calling the Box office at (800) 650-6449.

Shows vary from about seventy-five to ninety minutes and patrons are encouraged to arrive at least thirty-minutes prior to show to guarantee seating.  After every performance, actors and crew, along with house-band Bangers and Mash, co-host a cast party where audience members can mingle well into the wee hours and enjoy Maggie O’Brien’s weekly drink specials.
