RockWater is a 28.9-mile relay race that follows the path of the Santa Ana River, from the Orange and Riverside County line to its mouth in Huntington Beach to raise awareness about the river’s connection to our oceans, waves and beaches. RockWater also benefits the Newport Beach Chapter and its ongoing efforts to educate the community about the importance of clean water.
“This race has been a great way to help Orange County become aware of the expanse of our watershed as well as get the entire local community involved in our mission,” said Dudley Tabakin, Chair of Surfrider Foundation’s Newport Beach Chapter. “It provides healthy competition and outreach regarding the issues relating to our water.”
Teams of up to seven racers may consist of: runners and walkers only; or a mix of members on foot and on self-propelled wheels (bikes, skateboards, scooters). Each team must also have a driver and vehicle to transport team members to relay changeovers. Prizes are awarded for first place teams in each category, as well as for collecting the most trash on route and the ‘Wooden Spoon’ is awarded to the team finishing last.
Registration is $100 per team and includes a race t-shirt. Those who register by January 15th receive a 50% discount. View complete race details and register at: http://newportbeach.surfrider.org/
Sponsorships are available for as low as $500 which gives companies two complimentary teams as well as their logo placed on the website and race t-shirt.
