Jan. 4, 2012 - PRLog -- Washington, D.C. — On Friday, January 20th, The Hay-Adams Author Series will welcome bestselling authors, and husband and wife, Tony Horwitz and Geraldine Brooks to dine and discuss their work, including their latest books, respectively, "Midnight Rising: John Brown and the Raid That Sparked the Civil War" and "Caleb’s Crossing: A Novel." The luncheon will be held in the Hotel’s magnificent rooftop facility, Top of the Hay, overlooking the White House.

“We are very pleased to welcome not one, but two Pulitzer Prize-winning writers to The Hay-Adams Author Series to celebrate their highly acclaimed work and discuss their most recent books,” said Kay Enokido, President of the Hotel.

In addition to "Midnight Rising," named A New York Times Notable Book of 2011, Tony Horwitz is the author of "A Voyage Long and Strange: Rediscovering the New World," "Blue Latitudes," "Confederates in the Attic," and "Baghdad Without a Map." He is also a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who has worked for The Wall Street Journal and The New Yorker.

Geraldine Brooks is the author of both historical fiction — "Caleb’s Crossing," "People of the Book," "Year of Wonders," and the 2006 Pulitzer Prize winner for fiction, "March" — and non-fiction — "Nine Parts of Desire" and "Foreign Correspondence." She was previously a reporter for The Sydney Morning Herald and The Wall Street Journal.

The event will be held from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 p.m. and will be co-hosted by Kay Enokido and Ron Charles, fiction editor and a weekly book critic for The Washington Post. Guests will enjoy a specially prepared lunch and have the opportunity to interact with the authors. A book signing will follow.

Tickets are $85 and include a three-course meal, wine, tax and gratuity. "Midnight Rising" and "Caleb’s Crossing" will be available for purchase on-site by Politics & Prose. For tickets and more information, go to http://www.hayadams.com/washington-dc-author-series.php or call (202) 220-4844.

ABOUT THE HAY-ADAMS AUTHOR SERIES

The Hay-Adams Author Series was launched in 2005 to renew a tradition that began in the late 1800s when such notable authors as Mark Twain and Edith Wharton gathered at the homes of John Hay and Henry Adams (now the site of the Hay-Adams) to discuss politics, art, and literature. Combining lively conversation, an unparalleled location, and fine food and drink, the tradition lives on with some of the most distinguished authors of today. Previous authors have included Isabel Allende, Maya Angelou, Marie Arana, Robert Bennett, Ron Chernow, John Grisham, David McCullough, Robert Merry, Toni Morrison, and Patricia O'Toole.
