Calderone today announced the final selections for the 2012 Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema. The festival will run from Thursday, January 12 to Sunday, January 15, 2012 in the city of Idyllwild, California. Now in its third year the festival is hitting its stride, this year screening sixty seven (67) projects. The slate demonstrates the festival’s interest in highlighting independent artists, from student to professional level. IIFOC screens a wide range of projects, this year presenting seven feature films (seven dramas, six comedies, and two thrillers), six documentaries, fourteen featurettes (projects between 15 and 59 minutes in length) and 32 short films—a total of 67 projects. The festival has expanded to three venues and is doing outreach to local residents and business to make this year’s event more interactive. The central location is The Rustic Theatre, located at 54290 North Circle Drive, Idyllwild, CA. In addition to the film screenings, the four-day event includes an Opening Night Networking party, three seminars, an award ceremony and an Afterparty, all open to filmmakers and the public. Tickets must be obtained at the festival web site, although all party and seminar tickets may be selected free with any Festival Pass purchase. The three seminars are “The Working Actor in Hollywood; A Look At What It Really Takes to Have a Career on Screen,” “From Screenplay to Screen; Producing, Shooting and Selling an Independent Film,” and “Distribution Alternatives; Tickets may be purchased on line at http://www.idyllwildcinemafest.com/ Registration and badge pickup begins thirty minutes before the first show of each day at the Quiet Creek Gallery, adjacent to the Rustic Theatre. In addition to the traditional film festival award categories, two new awards have been added this year—Best Student Film and Best Web Series. The previous soundtrack award has been split into two awards now—Best Original Score and Best Soundtrack—the later named for Idyllwild’s Casey Abrams, a top-ten competitor on the 2011 season of American Idol. This syncs with the festival’s interest in recognizing and encouraging young talent; Casey is a graduate of the city’s Idyllwild Arts Academy and six films will be screened, in full competition, made by students of that school. The festival’s web site is designed to spark interest and help attendees plan their four days. The site includes poster art and synopses for all projects, and full-screen trailers for all features and documentaries. The screening schedule can be viewed at http://www.idyllwildcinemafest.com/ Attending will be representatives from distributors Open Road Films and Osiris Entertainment, both companies who distribute and promote independent productions.
