From the talented pen of author Lance Mannion comes this semi-autobiographical story of Harry Stevenson, a man in his forties who, despite all his material success, comes to the realization that life is passing him by.
A long vacation with a woman he only recently meets precipitates a series of life-changing actions and beliefs for Harry, who comes to discover that time, not money, is the most precious commodity of all—and very soon, it might just be the one thing he needs more than anything else.
“For all the touching, even daring emotion in Make It Count, Lance Mannion’s debut novel, there is also the feeling of an underdog’s story to the book and readers will find themselves rooting for Harry like they would Rocky Balboa or even Chris Gardner, whose year of homelessness was depicted in The Pursuit of Happyness,” said Kathie McGuire, director of Brighton Publishing LLC.
Lance A. Mannion was born in the hills of Kentucky in 1963, the youngest of five children. He served in the U.S. Marines until his honorable discharge in 1987 when he settled in Florida. He married, had four children, and built a successful business. But tragedy would devastate his family in 2004 with the death of his oldest son.
Divorced, his business sold, and life harder than it had ever been, Lance started taking lessons to become a pilot. Eventually, he started a new business, rediscovered his former high school sweetheart, and remarried in early 2012. Says Mannion in sentiments echoed by his lead character, Harry Stevenson, “The only thing of real value is time. You can’t buy it, steal it, bargain for it, or even beg for it. All you can do is either use it or waste it.”
Make It Count is his first novel.
